PREVALENCE OF PLACENTAL MALARIA IN NJIKOKA AND OYI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ANAMBRA STATE, NIGERIA

Objective: To determine the prevalence of placental malaria in state base on locality, age, parity and gravidity.Methods: a total 457 pregnant women were enrolled cross sectional community based survey during different transmission seasons rural urban area South Eastern Nigeria. Demographic characters collected using structured questionnaire for women. Once pregnancy is confirmed test prove positive with or without febrile illness consent seeked subsequent enrollment approval. Then followed until delivery. On delivery blood sample from fresh placenta immediately placed into ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA) test.Result: Pregnancy was risk factor infection (P=0.001) Plasmodum falciparium only parasite implicate study; 225 (49.5%) out to microscopic screening. Educational level mothers significant rate both locality under study. Gravidity highly primigravidae showing higher 78 (73.6%) 106 x2 (1N- 457) = 19.804; P= 0.001 (Table). Prevalence Odd ratio Oyi Njikoka LGAs also indicating (OR: 1.77‘ 95% CI: 1.14-3.04; 9.171; P=0.002 (Table 6)Conclusion: An overall 48.91% observed which quite high. Age, gravidity affect malaria. The knowledge, application adherence appropriate control may be valuable if advocacy change new pattern strategies compliance strictly applied.
